Despite having lived in Wellington for two and a half years at the time of this recording I had for some reason missed previous Chinese New Year activities. For the 2006 celebrations I caught the bus to town and, running late, stepped straight off the bus and into a dizzying barrage of drums, cymbals and deafening fireworks. A cheap digital voice recorder stuffed into my hip pocket captured all this as best it could. Being Wellington, it also captured the ever-present sounds of wind and an oblivious busker from MOR hell.
